Best deal on ankle work boots on the net. Truly... these are great shoes. The sole was a little stiff out of the box. By the end of the first day they were broke in.
Tredagain Claystone's boot construction is sturdy to the touch, possesses thick but supple leather, and offers a comfortable cradling fit. The leather upper gives a classy combination of an aged, distressed appearance. Tredagain describes it as a full-grain waxed upper. I find the classic moccasin toe of the Claystone model attractive and stylish. Tredagain branded the Claystone an Oxford, but I would describe it more as a "chukka" boot. Boot upper stitiching appears uniform and well placed accents. The bonding of the APX rubber sole to the leather upper is well done, leaving no trace of glue marks on or puckers in the leather. The sole appears rugged and durable, yet flexible and comfortable for all day walking, directly out of the box. The removable anatomical footbed is thick and well-cushioned, but firm enough for solid support. Sizing is, as they say, "true to size." I wear a 9.5 in both shoes and boots...and 9.5 fits wonderfully. A quality boot for everyday, casual wear but stout enough for the occasional off-pavement stroll. Kudos to Chelsea when I called to inquire about sizing! It's a huge comfort to call customer service and a "real live person" answers...fields all your questions patiently and graciously answers. Well done, Tredagain!
